Background: for a short period of time I was involved in Rat Rescue, that is fostering/re-homing pet (or lab) rats once the novelty has worn off, the irresponsible breeders realised there's no money in it, or the study had finished .. Naturally I'd end up attached to the little fuzz butts so almost as soon as I started I decided instead to give a permanent home to the eight I'd already taken responsibility for ..
This was a couple of years ago and the guys (all male which I prefer for personality and heath reasons) were of various ages, so now-a-days we only have five that come from three litters .. Well yesterday was bath day so they're all sweet smelling and today got to have cuddles and free play on my bed, where I was eating chocolate:

Hey Mumma, What you got there?

Sorry Mumma, I promise to share real nice next time
They are super cute until I see the tails and then I get a little weirded out but in general, cute!
ReplyDeleteI love rats, my boys had one we named Henrietta. She lived for many years. In the end she ended up getting a huge tumor and she had to be put to sleep. She was the sweetest thing though. People thought I was crazy, but I loved her so much. They are really personable and fun. I love your pics of them. They are awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou had a great run with Henrietta if she lived that long Billie .. It's rare females live two years due to tumours, which is why I don't keep them .. Just too expensive and heartbreaking for me, though I'm sure she was a wonderful friend ♥
ReplyDeleteYes it's the tails that put most people off I think, oh and big fuzzy balls lol ..
Just can't get into rats - they really don't do anything for me. They really don't live very long compared with just about every other pet. Even mice live longer.
ReplyDeleteTumours in the females are just a disaster.
Indeed their lifespan is very short .. My babies are reaching 2 now so at best I'll have another year and a half, and will be devastated when they pass on :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of cuties!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful Clare :)
ReplyDeleteI love rats. They are so smart!
